About

You owe it to yourself to make some turns with “dr. dave, telemark turnologist.”  I have a passion for all-mountain skiing, whether on high-performance alpine equipment or freeheel nordic gear.  I’m a self-confessed soft snow junkie in the ungroomed fluff, but I have fun ripping big lines on groomers too.  If you’re game for an especially rewarding challenge, let’s do some downhill dancing on telemark gear!  (Unfortunately I no longer know any local places that rent telemark equipment.)

With a PSIA Level 3 certification in telemark skiing and a Level 2 in the alpine discipline, I pride myself in versatility.  Beginners and novices - have no fear!  I love working with people who are new to the sport or are returning, perhaps after a long layoff.  I strive to dial in just the right amount of intensity and technical content for each guest, while always keeping things safe, light and fun.  I’ll teach you how to get the most out of your modern equipment to ski more easily and efficiently, saving you some energy to enjoy your apres-ski time too.  Do you want to make more graceful, elegant turns?  I can teach you to be smooooooth.  But if you want to carve deep trenches in the corduroy or dance through the uneven terrain, I’ll be charging right along with you!

Recipient of PSIA Eastern Division’s 2016 Kåre Andersen Award for “extraordinary commitment to promote freeheel skiing and inspire others in living the Nordic life.”

Other passions: Music, woodworking, luthier craft, engineering and physical sciences.

If you seriously want to shred better, book a lesson with “dr. dave!

Dave is one of the best couches I have ever had. He is a technical guy and explains things very well. I made big improvement after having taken his lessons. By the way, there was a lot of fun to have lessons with him.

First time for this 10 year old. Dr Dave got me started right,,, taught me how to get up after falling down a lot! even with 6 kids in the class, lots of attention to each. I'll be back.

I am an advanced alpine skier and was in need of a change of pace, so I decided to give telemark skiing a try. I happened to be at Blue Mountain visiting and had brought both sets of skis. Thankfully Dave was available for a private lesson! I had a great time learning the ins and outs of the differences between alpine and tele skiing. Dave is genuinely enthusiastic about both tele skiing and teaching. By the end of the day, he had me "dancing" down the hill! I am grateful for the knowledge that Dave shared with me and highly recommend him for lessons. Great guy, great time - I'm hooked!

I'm six yrs old and still talking about Dr Dave, the gravity guru, more than a week after my lesson with him. We spent two hours focused on nothing but turns and I want more! In fact, in three years of privates, he's the most impressionable teacher yet. Thank you; we will be back for more!

After a very long mid-life layoff, I came to Dr. Dave for help. What a boost! He's analytical and can diagnose your problems asap and help you "fix" them. He makes it all fun and lighthearted. He instills such confidence, your skiing really takes off---whooohooo!
