About
Hello, my name is Rick Hale and I’ve been either a skiing competitor or ski coach my whole life. I’ve been involved with alpine, Nordic combined (cross country, and ski jumping), telemark, and backcountry. As you may surmise, I love to ski and I love to share my knowledge of the sport, especially backcountry. So not only can I show you the gear and how to use it, I can instruct you in skinning/climbing techniques, how to set proper skinning tracks, how to transition effectively, body temperature management, safety, backcountry etiquette, and, if you need some pointers on your downhill skiing technique, I can help with that too. Before joining Bolton Valley as a guide I co-founded, the first of it’s kind, backcountry program in the country for youths at a neighboring ski resort. The program is in it’s 12th season, and there are forty kids and eight coaches including myself. This is my second season as a Bolton Valley Backcountry Guide. I guided over twenty tours last year here and also explored a lot in my free time so I have a pretty good sense of the expansive terrain. Though my schedule shows my availability being Sun -Tues, I may be available other days upon request. Thanks for looking, and I look forward to your booking.
