About

I started skiing when I was 27 years old. Having started later in life gives me a great understand of what the different parts of the body need to do in order to ski and it also helps me understand the "fear" or anticipation that most people feel attempting to do something new.

I enjoy teaching adults as well as kids. Having a 6 year old son helps me understand the kids motivation and/or help them with that next step of skiing in control while having fun doing it.

I focus in my teaching on being one with the mountain and ski with as little effort as possible. Come and have some fun with me.

I've been working with Sylvia for the past three or four years as part of the Wachusett Mountain Women's Clinics and have found Sylvia to be an excellent coach and teacher. Although she does have us work through the typical ski clinic exercises, Sylvia's real strength lies in her coaching abilities. Each clinic session, she intently watches us ski and provides us with an in-depth analysis of our skiing (negatives and positives) and ways to correct our skiing issues. She remembers each detail of our skiing and will comment on placement of hands, feet, hips, etc. etc. and give us useful/easy to understand ways to improve. As a part of her coaching, she'll sometimes take videos of us skiing and later provide an analysis of the footage. Sylvia uses real language to convey the information (not ski-jargon) and has a positive, gentle approach to her teaching. She is also interested in diet and nutrition and their effect on athletic performance and I have also found our conversations on these topics to be quite useful as well. Out of all of the ski instructors I've had over the years, I've found Sylvia to be the most positive, regarding improving my skiing style and abilities. When I am in sticky ski situations (especially out west or at Sugarloaf), I try to "channel my inner Sylvia" to get me through the rough/gnarly skiing.
